Putin Set for New Delhi BRICS Summit, Kremlin Announces September Visit

by admin477351

India is preparing to host the annual BRICS summit this September, marking its tenure as the chair of the influential bloc this year. The summit is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from September 12 to 13, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed his attendance. This announcement signals a significant gathering of leaders from the expanding group of emerging economies.

President Putin’s participation highlights the continued engagement between BRICS nations, which originally consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa but has grown to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia over recent years. These nations collectively represent nearly half of the world’s population, a substantial portion of global GDP, and a significant share of international trade.

In addition to attending the summit, President Putin is slated to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the event’s sidelines. This meeting underscores the strategic dialogues that often accompany such international gatherings, where leaders have the opportunity to engage in discussions that extend beyond the formal agenda.

President Putin’s upcoming visit to India follows his last trip to the country in December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. This visit comes shortly after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s participation in a two-day BRICS member states conclave earlier this month, also held in New Delhi. These interactions reflect the ongoing diplomatic exchanges and the strengthening of ties within the BRICS framework.

The BRICS summit serves as a vital platform for these nations to collaborate on various global issues, aiming to enhance their collective influence in international affairs. As the host, India will play a crucial role in facilitating discussions that could shape future economic and political landscapes, highlighting the bloc’s significance in the global arena.
