Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed a desire to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon, as he welcomed India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, to the Kremlin during Jaishankar’s two-day visit to Moscow. Putin conveyed his best wishes to Modi and hinted at the possibility of their next meeting coinciding with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s events. Additionally, there is anticipation for Putin’s visit to New Delhi for the BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled for September.
During the discussions, Putin underscored the strengthening trade relations between Russia and India, noting the increase in fertiliser exports to India, which Moscow is prepared to expand further. This development comes as both countries seek to bolster their economic ties amid shifting global dynamics.
Earlier in his visit, Jaishankar engaged in talks with Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, focusing on enhancing bilateral trade and economic collaboration. Manturov highlighted Russia’s interest in potentially localizing nuclear fuel production within India, indicative of the deepening ties between the two nations.
In addition to these high-level meetings, Jaishankar is expected to hold discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The agenda includes not only bilateral relations but also broader regional and global issues, reflecting the strategic importance of the India-Russia partnership in current international affairs.
