Assam BJP Plans October Rallies to Oppose Congress on Democratic Institutions

by admin477351

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold rallies across the state from October 13 to October 31. These rallies aim to oppose what the BJP perceives as Congress’s efforts to undermine democratic institutions. Sarma shared this plan during a press conference in Guwahati, emphasizing that the events will be peaceful and take place at district headquarters.

Sarma expressed the intention of these rallies to bolster public confidence in constitutional institutions and to show support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He accused Congress and other opposition parties of politically challenging institutions like the Election Commission and the Supreme Court. According to Sarma, these actions are attempts to manipulate political outcomes.

The Assam Chief Minister also criticized Congress’s stance against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He argued that revising the voter lists is crucial for addressing issues related to illegal immigration and ensuring accuracy in Assam’s voter registration. The BJP sees the electoral roll revision as a necessary step, despite opposition from Congress.

Additionally, Sarma targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of inconsistent standards regarding election results based on which party emerges victorious. He also disapproved of Gandhi’s actions concerning the Supreme Court, asserting that political pressures should not interfere with constitutional institutions.

The BJP’s planned rallies will focus on supporting democratic institutions and critiquing the Congress party’s approach to electoral and constitutional matters. This announcement comes amidst ongoing political tensions between the BJP and Congress over electoral processes, the independence of institutions, and immigration-related issues in Assam.
