India triumphed over Pakistan with a 19-run victory to retain their Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal in a gripping final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. Batting first, India set an imposing target of 211/6, thanks to an explosive start from Abhishek Sharma and a crucial late innings by Tilak Varma.

Abhishek Sharma’s rapid half-century propelled India to 81/2 in the Powerplay, marking their highest Powerplay score against Pakistan in T20 internationals. However, Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed, staged a comeback in the middle overs, curtailing India’s progress.

Tilak Varma then took charge in the latter part of the innings, scoring an unbeaten 51 off 22 balls. His partnership with Shivam Dube, who added 27 runs, was pivotal in pushing India past the 200-run mark, as they set Pakistan a challenging chase of 212.

Pakistan’s response was spearheaded by Hasan Nawaz, who delivered an impressive unbeaten 96 off 51 balls. He partnered with Saim Ayub for an 87-run stand, putting India under considerable pressure during the chase.

Nevertheless, India’s bowling attack managed to regain control. Washington Sundar’s stellar performance in the 18th over halted Pakistan’s momentum, while Jasprit Bumrah applied further pressure in the penultimate over.

With Pakistan requiring 33 runs in the final over, Shivam Dube held his nerve to defend successfully, sealing a 19-run win for India. This victory not only extended India’s dominance over Pakistan in T20 internationals but also secured another Asian Games gold medal for the Indian men’s cricket team.
