Google has introduced its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, enhancing the Chrome browser with AI-powered capabilities. This update enables users to summarize webpages, connect information across Google services like Gmail and Calendar, and perform various web-based tasks directly from their browser.
The expansion includes an advanced auto-browse feature available for both desktop and Android devices, specifically tailored for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India. This feature allows Gemini to navigate websites and complete specific tasks on behalf of users, such as comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments. It is designed to handle complex, multi-step activities that typically require users to manually navigate multiple webpages and perform several actions.
To ensure safety during AI browsing, Google has implemented safeguards to mitigate potential risks associated with AI agents interacting directly with websites. Gemini is equipped to identify threats like prompt-injection attempts, and users may need to confirm sensitive actions before they are executed. These precautions are crucial when the AI system can make changes, submit forms, or carry out transactions on behalf of the user.
The number of multi-step tasks that users can perform through auto-browse is contingent upon their Google AI subscription. Google AI Pro subscribers are allowed up to 20 multi-step requests per day, while Google AI Ultra subscribers can make up to 200 requests daily. This rollout marks Google’s effort to integrate more agentic AI capabilities into Chrome, transitioning from simply asking AI questions to using it for executing tasks across the web.
