The removal specifically targets the Mac desktop app. Voice capabilities continue functioning normally through the ChatGPT website, which works on any browser, as well as through mobile applications on iOS and Android. Windows desktop users also retain their voice functionality. Mac is the only desktop platform affected.
While OpenAI hasn’t provided detailed technical reasoning, the emphasis on unified experiences suggests architectural considerations. The current Mac app’s voice implementation may not fit with broader strategic plans for voice technology.
