Maharashtra Mandates Aadhaar for Property Registrations to Prevent Fraud

by admin477351

The Maharashtra government has mandated Aadhaar authentication for registering immovable property documents starting October 1, aiming to enhance identity verification and prevent fraud. This new requirement applies to 63 types of registrations, including property sales, purchases, mortgages, and partition deeds.

According to Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the initiative is designed to curb impersonation, eliminate fake documentation, and reduce human intervention in the registration process. For individuals who do not possess an Aadhaar number, proof of application for Aadhaar along with other government-issued identity documents will be required. The information provided by these individuals will undergo verification before the registration transaction is finalized.

Special provisions are in place for minors and specific eligible categories. Children who do not have an Aadhaar number will not be excluded from property registration benefits solely due to the absence of this identification number.

The government asserts that the new system will contribute to making the property registration process more secure, transparent, and efficient. By integrating Aadhaar authentication, Maharashtra aims to bolster the integrity of property transactions and safeguard against fraudulent activities.
