India is caught between a punitive US and a collaborative Russia. The US has slapped 50% tariffs on India, half of which are a direct penalty for purchasing Russian oil. This was followed by Donald Trump claiming India would stop the trade.
India’s MEA pushed back, citing “national interest” and “consumer welfare” as its guiding principles.
In stark contrast, Russia’s Ambassador Denis Alipov announced a major partnership push. He defended the “beneficial” oil trade and then unveiled a significant expansion of defense cooperation.
This offer includes “full technology-sharing” for the Su-57 fighter, drones, and advanced radar, building on a 60-year legacy that provided 70% of India’s military hardware.
The contrast is clear: The US is imposing penalties for India’s independent energy policy, while Russia is offering advanced technology and joint production.
