In a bid to bolster economic collaboration, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently engaged in separate discussions with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Riikka Purra, and Minister of Economic Affairs, Sakari Puisto. These meetings aimed to strengthen trade and investment relations between India and Finland.
Key areas of focus during these talks included digitalisation, innovation, and research and development. Both nations expressed interest in expanding cooperation in sectors such as startups and business partnerships. Moreover, they explored potential advancements in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space, and sustainability.
A significant topic on the agenda was the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Discussions revolved around how this pact could enhance bilateral trade, attract investment, and create new opportunities for businesses within both countries.
The meetings occurred against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations between India and the European Union for a comprehensive trade agreement. These negotiations aim to strengthen economic ties and boost cooperation across various strategic sectors, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing mutual economic interests.
