Addressing the session’s opening, Modi highlighted India’s recent global achievements, particularly in the space sector. He lauded the success of Skyroot Aerospace, a private space startup with a young team averaging just 28 years of age. In a pointed remark apparently aimed at Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, the Prime Minister emphasized the contributions of “young people” rather than a “56-year-old youth.”
The Monsoon Session is set to tackle several significant legislative proposals, including amendments regarding foreign funding regulations, taxation, higher education, judicial reforms, and the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises. Among the notable proposals is a bill aimed at increasing the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges from 33 to 37, excluding the Chief Justice of India, to address the issue of case backlogs.
Modi’s call for constructive debate comes as the session is anticipated to feature intense political exchanges, with the government advancing a range of reforms. Meanwhile, the opposition is expected to spotlight various national issues.
