At a United Nations Security Council meeting, India issued a strong rebuke to Pakistan, condemning Islamabad’s use of the phrase “Fitna al-Hindustan” to label certain groups active in Pakistan’s Balochistan region. Harish Parvathaneni, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, criticized this terminology as a form of state-sponsored misinformation, accusing Pakistan of employing religious language to foster animosity towards India.
Parvathaneni asserted that Pakistan’s narrative is part of a deliberate disinformation campaign designed to shift focus from its own political and economic difficulties. He argued that the use of such rhetoric is aimed at perpetuating anti-India sentiment rather than addressing the real issues at hand. This statement followed Pakistan’s official designation of militant groups in Balochistan as “Fitna al-Hindustan,” a term suggesting foreign-backed destabilization efforts.
In addition to addressing the terminology issue, India raised alarms over Pakistan’s military activities in Afghanistan, alleging that airstrikes conducted by Pakistan had led to civilian casualties. Parvathaneni emphasized that civilian deaths cannot be justified under the guise of counterterrorism operations and urged for accountability in these matters.
The Indian envoy also took the opportunity to critique Pakistan’s political and military leadership. He argued that blaming neighboring countries for domestic issues is not a viable solution to Pakistan’s internal challenges. This exchange underscores the enduring tensions between India and Pakistan on international stages, where both nations frequently accuse one another of interference and destabilizing actions.
