Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the disproportionately low carbon footprint of developing nations, particularly India, during an international climate conference in New Delhi on Saturday. Modi highlighted that India’s per capita carbon emissions are less than half the global average, underscoring the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Addressing the International Conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics,” Modi pointed out India’s advancements in renewable energy, noting that the nation met its Paris Agreement climate goals ahead of schedule. He cited significant growth in non-fossil fuel capacity and solar energy as key components of India’s strategy to combat climate change.
The two-day conference, organized by the National Green Tribunal on September 19 and 20, serves as a platform for judges, government officials, environmental experts, and legal representatives from across the globe to tackle pressing environmental issues. The event focuses on challenges such as policy implementation gaps, environmental justice, and institutional cooperation.
Throughout the conference, four technical sessions are being held to explore major environmental issues and devise strategies for future climate challenges. The gathering aims to foster collaboration and develop actionable approaches to enhance global environmental efforts.
