The West Bengal government is set to sign an agreement with the central government on September 28 to develop a new airport in Purulia district under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, as announced by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. This initiative is poised to enhance regional air connectivity, potentially boosting tourism and industrial growth in the area.
Preparations for the airport have been finalized, with the state government having already submitted an application for the necessary licensing. A representative from the civil aviation authorities has been involved in ongoing discussions regarding the project, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
The establishment of an airport in Purulia is anticipated to play a crucial role in supporting the district’s economic development, particularly across sectors such as tourism and infrastructure. In addition to the airport development, the West Bengal government is actively seeking significant investments in various sectors within Purulia. These sectors include defence, steel, cement, and solar energy.
